Overview

Taiwanese abstract pioneer Ho Kan will present his large-scale respective, Beyond Colors and Shapes, at the Villa Reale of Monza in suburban Milan, Italy. Curated by renowned French curator, Sabine Vazieux, the exhibition displays Ho’s masterpieces created from 1950 to 2016, in a span of over sixty years. In short, the exhibition presents a comprehensive review of the artist fascinating career over six decades.

Meanwhile, in Taipei, Chini Gallery will present a synchronous exhibition of Ho’s new works from 2017 and 2018, which reveal more diverse and richer composition with dots, lines, planes and color blocks. In recent years, his arrangement of color, line, space and form is fast-paced and agile as well as simple and poetic, embodying the unique Eastern abstract poetics through his philosophical contemplation on compositional arrangement.

In addition to Ho’s recent work, the Taipei exhibition also showcases sculpture models and sketches from a collaborative project by the artist and Yang Bei-Chen, a well-known realist sculptor in Taiwan while the sculptures are on view at the Villa Reale of Monza. With the display of models and sketches, visitors will realize a remarkable collaboration based on the innovative perspective informed with the element of spontaneity and experimentation that characterizes both artists’ creative approaches.
