The ”1989 The Best of Youth” solo exhibition by Taiwanese Artist Wei Jane Chir and held by Chini Gallery, is a look back on the artist’s past 3 decades of creation. In 1989, with turbulent events that rocked the world, where China, the former Soviet Union, and Berlin all underwent radical economic and political changes, Chir’s works went from personal, microscopic perspective and feelings to observations and response to the global social changes and trends. Art was not only for self-healing, but the attention given to the differences and acknowledgement of society and culture, which in turn provides avenues for further contemplation and solutions. After thirty years, Chir’s 2019 solo exhibition is based on the theme of “1989 The Best of Youth”, and primarily displays works that began in 1989 during the Berlin period, as well as new ink-painting works from recent years, which describes the passion of the youth and the intense, personal longing for home. From 1989 to 2019, time has flown by; history and memory slowly fades, but the days of youths fighting for democracy and freedom continue to perpetuate themselves. The art built on youth and passion has become permanent records, preserving their meanings and spirits forever.
