Overview

As spring ushers in renewal, CHINI Gallery opens a new chapter within its newly inaugurated exhibition space. Where Light Begins, the Heart Unfolds, presented as the inaugural exhibition of the new venue, centers on CHEN Cheng-Wei’s latest monumental seven-panel painting Seven Treasures Vision. The exhibition not only marks the reactivation of the gallery space, but also signals a pivotal moment as the gallery steps into its next phase—using art as a medium of illumination, allowing the gallery’s renewed presence to unfold within a clear, serene, and spiritually grounded atmosphere.

As the first exhibition following the gallery’s reopening, Seven Treasures Vision, resonates deeply with the significance of this moment. The work draws inspiration from the “Seven Treasures” found in Buddhist scriptures—symbols of auspiciousness, light, and blessing—including gold, silver, lapis lazuli, coral, giant clam, amber, and agate. These spiritual qualities are transformed into color, light, and visual rhythm. Together, the Seven Treasures embody luminosity, clarity, and a vital sense of wholeness, offering a spiritual response to CHINI Gallery’s renewed beginning:

gold illuminates the vision of what lies ahead;

silver refines and clarifies perception;

lapis lazuli brings lucidity and inner clarity;

coral awakens vitality and life force;

giant clam grounds the path with purity and steadiness;

amber gathers and consolidates direction;

agate brings balance, lending persistence to forward movement.

Within this context, Seven Treasures Vision is not only a work of grand visual scale, but also a symbolic point of departure for the gallery. When the seven panels are presented together, they form a field woven from energy and symbol, granting the new space a dual force—one that opens outward while inviting inward reflection.

CHEN Cheng-Wei is known for his early mastery of classical realism, with a strong emphasis on light and formal structure. In recent years, his practice has shifted toward a more spiritual and symbolic visual language, using motifs such as flowers, trees, rivers, and eyes to convey memory, emotion, and inner experience. Continuing from his Blossoms of Life and The Vibrancy of Life, Seven Treasures Vison further constructs an inner universe sustained by color and spiritual resonance. Within this universe, towering sacred trees and multicolored rivers are no longer mere landscapes, but embodiments of kinship and life rooted in the earth. Gem-like mountains rich in energy and vibrant auspicious flowers become symbols of emotion and vitality. The recurring presence of eyes—regarded as the “Eye of Wisdom”—both reveals the illusion of the world and illuminates its deeper truth. These symbolic images carry the artist’s reflections on love, memory, and life energy, while also suggesting a path of inner contemplation: to look inward toward the heart, and outward toward the world.

As viewers enter the exhibition, they step onto a path guided by light and oriented by the heart. When the seven works are presented together, they transcend the artist’s personal inner landscape and become a shared spiritual realm. Amid the resonance of color and the flow of energy, viewers are invited to rediscover their connection with the present moment, approaching the new year in a state of calm clarity and quiet brightness.
