Overview

This year, CHINI Gallery will once again showcase at the 2024 Ink Asia, presenting a remarkable collection of ink paintings by three distinguished artists: TENG Pu-Chun (b. 1957), HO Kan (b. 1932),
and HSU Yu-Jen (b. 1951).

TENG Pu-Chun’s landscapes, refined through the artist’s contemplative process, will be represented by his latest work, Landscape with Rocks. This new piece ingeniously employs glass elements to create a mesmerizing visual effect, subverting traditional ink painting techniques and compositions to immerse viewers in the artist's magical reality.

The exhibition will also offer an exclusive presentation of ink works by HO Kan, a pioneer in Chinese geometric abstraction. His bold and dynamic pieces challenge conventional perceptions, while his Eastern geometric abstract paintings, which integrate elements of calligraphy and stone carving, will reveal the multifaceted nature of HO Kan's artistry.

HSU Yu-Jen, fresh from his major retrospective at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, will present his bold, rugged, and minimalist Aquarene Painting Series. Among these, Auarene Painting Series No. 41 stands out, demonstrating HSU’s innovative geometric compositions and resolute ink lines, embodying the artist's inner determination and expansive vision of life.

We look forward to meeting you at the 2024 Ink Asia, where we will together witness the boundless possibilities of contemporary ink art.

霍剛 (1932-)

HO Kan

Ho Kan integrates Eastern calligraphy and the art of seal carving with a minimalist yet poetic visual language to develop his distinctive, Eastern lyrical abstraction. He starts with elemental points, and, from them, he creates his own philosophy about the arrangement of the image, validating the existence of each element.

TENG Pu-Chun

Different from the elegance embodied by traditional literati painters, his work displays a sense of individual carefreeness; in particular, the unique technique of "rolled wrinkle strokes" created by himself has formed a unique vocabulary of modern magical ink painting. His fantastical and illusory representation seems to transport viewers to a surreal, magical realm of contemporary landscape beyond what is seen by the naked eyes.

HSU Yu-Jen

Hsu’s practice spans ink painting, oil painting, mixed media, and calligraphy. Rooted in brush-and-ink mastery, his work embraces experimental concepts to redefine the language of contemporary ink art. Positioned within the broader trajectory of ink’s modernization, Hsu has established a singular and rigorous creative path that secures his place in both contemporary art and art history.
