Born in Taiwan in 1981, Chang Yung-Ta lives currently in Taipei. His oeuvre features the subtle, negligible physical phenomena and sounds in our quotidian existence. By virtue of rigorous experiments and studies on sound, materials, science and data, the artist specializes in tackling the relations among humankind, technology and environment, whereby he endeavors to heighten our haptic perception of the world of fantasy within the heavily vision-oriented mainstream.
Chang's works encompass multiple forms that range from audio-visual and experimental sound to sound installation and live performance. Apart from his personal creations, the artist also engages in collaborative projects with artists in other fields like theater, dance and music. His works have been presented in many solo exhibitions, joint exhibitions and art festivals around Asia, Europe, North America and South America, such as Institut d'art contemporain de Villeurbanne, IAC (2025), Toi et moi, on ne vit pas sur la même planète at Centre Pompidou-Metz (2021), Taipei Biennial (2020), National Taichung Theater (2019), ARTEFACT: Chernobyl 33 (2019), Digital Art Festival Taipei (2017), City Sonic: International Sound Art Festival (2015), Hong Kong Arts Center (2013), 01SJ Biennial (2010), 404 International Festival of Electronic Art (2006), and Seoul New Media Art Festival (2006).
